Found this photo of Chris's leg which he smacked up over christmas(see pic above), the interesting thing about this photo is that it was taken by Will West in the Sprinter while we were doing about 85 down the A31 while i was telling them all to sit down.

More hot news Chris has received sponsorship from Wight mountain the largest push bike shop on the island, they are GIVING him a brand new bike after seeing him on his old one. In return they want to do a photo shoot with him on the bike to put in the papers, and have their name on the Sprinter, and web page.

January 04 has been a fairly quiet month for Chris with only two island trial competed in, one reason for this was to give him more time to get used to the new Beta rev 80 before we hit the mainland trials in a big way.

If everything goes to plan he wont be riding on the island again until the Wight Two day trial. Feb 1st Chris, Will West, Josh Stephen's, Sam Ryan, And Jack Ayres travelled up to Silsden, to compete in the first round of the Yorkshire centre championship, this of course meant travelling up the day before, staying in Skipton again and drinking lot's of cheep yorkshire beer.

On Sunday morning we drove to the start of the trial high on the moors above Silsden, as did the other 200 plus riders including Alex Wigg, Mika Vesterinen, Ian Austermuhle who won,James Dabill, Martin Crosswaite, and a host of top class riders from all over the country. The C course consisted of one lap of 20 sections, not much you might think until you realise that means one lap of the B course, and being a Yorkshire centre championship trial the B course was about as hard as the A course at your average OTC trial down south.

Most of the sections were up a rock stream in a woods, but the stream had been turned into a river by the recent rain and melting snow, not the sort of trial for a 9yr old on a Beta 80, but we went to learn and that's what we did. Chris had a go at all but 5 of the sections and really did well on some of them, including one really nice clean were you had to jump off a waterfall. But he was out of his depth, it was a learning day and Chris will have learnt more at this trial than all the others since he's had the Beta.

The first round of the Southern centre trials championship at Bransgore on the outskirts of the new forest will as always at this venue be remembered for one thing (deep shit). The course consisted of 5 laps of 8 sections the first 3 of which were in the bottomless bog, section one was hard enough for the C course with only three's and five's on the first lap. As the section became harder as the shit got deeper, the clerk of the course decided to make it even harder, a decision i just could not understand. The easy way out by way of protest was to ask the observer to give Chris five's for the remaining 4 laps, so stuff your stupid section back in your flag bag.

The remaining 4 sections in the gravel pit and the one over some fallen trees at the side of the lane were actually quite good, but some parts of the C course were harder than the B route. In the youth B class Will West let the side down by coming second on 75, Sam Ryan from the Island won youth C on 95, and Chris was pleased to come second on 126 finding the trial much easier than the Yorkshire centre championship the previous week.

The Nelson cruse trial was the second round of this years southern centre championships, and round one of the youth C championship. This excellent trial held near Stourton just off the A303 attracted over 120 riders from all over the south including 16 riders from the IOW. The C course was just about right if a little easy in places, but a good mixture of sections in the steep forest. Chris had a good ride generally but a few silly mistakes gave third place to his mate Sam Ryan. Apparently some riders rode the last two sections 4 times before they became to cut up, this gave them quite an advantage as the rest of the course became easier. I rode the B course on my friends 2001 Gas Gas 321 and would have won had i not lost any marks, Chris lost 28 to take fourth place one mark behind Sam.

People from the east, can't believe that you were at the Y.M.S.A. trial last weekend, we left home at 5.45am caught the 6.30am ferry from Yarmouth and got to the trial around 10.30. Didn't finish the trial until 5pm, jumped in the sprinter called in the shop at the filling station down the road, trod mud all over the shop floor, and left there at 5.30pm. We arrived at Lymington at 8.50pm caught the 9pm ferry and got home at 10pm. Had a nice day out in Derbyshire, did you notice the daffodils out in Mattock, is'cent nature wonderful? Did you freeze your f****** bollocks off queuing to sign on.

You should know, on Saturday evening of the 2 day at Brickfields horse country there is an arena trial for the top 6 riders from the day. First prize £100 Bar, food, results and loads of bull s*** excuses from the day. Turnips from the east spread the word,

A.S.

Chris took fourth place in the first round of the British C class, 80cc championship in Wales on the day that the clocks went back, or at least that's what the results will read. He should have been third, and if independent observers marked the trial he definitely would have been, but you don't make your own candle burn brighter by blowing other peoples out. Chris finished one point behind Joel Edwards (Last years D class Champion, who comes from Wales) loosing 79 to Jouls 78, Jack Howard, last years runner up lost 87. On the second section of the day Chris did the hard bit and then lost his way, so it was hard lifting his spirits after that, but on the last lap he more than made up for it with some excellent rides once his confidence returned. So roll on next Saturday when we head for Cowden in Kent and round two of the British C/D championships...... A.S.

Wightlink 2 day

The first prize money for the arena trial on the Saturday night of this years wightlink two day trial on April 24/25 has been raised to £150, there will also be second and third place money. This is all thanks to an additional sponsor who has stepped in, the IOWMCC is pulling out all the stops to make this event a success as any profit made will be going to the local hospice. A rock band is being organised to play after the indoor trial, and the owner of Brickfields has said that any one with campers can sleep in the large car park.

From Alan stay Chair IOWMCC.

The annual Wightlink two day trial was held last weekend at Knighton sand pit on Saturday and Cheverton chalk quarry on Sunday. This years event attracted the largest entry for many years, with riders coming from all over the country and the channel islands. Blessed with perfect weather from start to finish, the trial ran like clockwork, with only a few retirements. The first days action kicked of with the reigning southern centre trials champion Andy Blackman establishing an early lead over National clubman competitor Wayne Holdsworth The Isle of Wight champion Jack Ayres wasn't going to let these two have it all there own way with some amazing performances in the woods where steep climbs and near vertical drops were testing the riders abilities to the limits. The Highlight of the first days action was the graded hill climb which attracted many spectators, they saw only the best of the entry reaching the summit during the course of the day. Island girl Becky Cook was one of those that did reach the top on her BVM Gas Gas, and with former two times winner of this event Alan Stay on hand doing the minding, she ended up leading the Intermediates on the first day. 11 marks behind Becky came another islander to have won this event in 1978 Bun Symes. James Stay on a borrowed Montesa was leading the clubmans class with an outstanding ride, heading Andy Ball who is currently leading the southern centre clubmans championship, James maintained the lead throughout the two days to come out on top and win the clubmans class trophy and beating over 40 other riders in the process. At the end of the first days action

E.Oldaker from Bexleyheath was leading the 14 strong novice contingent 8 marks ahead of selbourne rider T Cousins. While a strong youth entry was headed by S Will from Crowthorne in youth A, Islander Will West in youth B, and JLI Beta rider George gosden having one of his better days to head Chris Stay in youth C. In the evening everyone headed for the Brickfields charity arena trial that saw around 700 spectators, but this would spell desaster for Kevin Nolan who was lying in four place over night, Kevin burnt his clutch out in the arena trial and was unable to ride on day two. Bright sunshine greeted the riders early Sunday morning at Cheverton chalk quarry where a three lap course of 15 sections consisting of large rock steps, shear climbs and drops awaited the riders. All was going well for Phil Whiffen until lap 2 when a 'jammed throttle" caused him to crash on a large rock resulting in his unfortunate restatement, and a nasty gash to his lower leg. Despite all of Wayne Holdsworth's efforts in posting the lowest score on the second day of only 17, this wasn't enough to over come the advantage Blackman had gained on day one. After completing some 90 sections over the two days the top two finished on 30 each, with Blackman taking the win having cleaned 76 sections to Holdsworths 70. Local rider Jack Ayres couldn't match the top two's performance, but third place was his best ever result in this trial. Brimming with renewed confidence from his victory in Saturday nights arena trial, local rider Lee Haydon went on to finish 4th overall. Best expert Guernsey rider was Tom Scott who made the trip across the channel worth while to finish in 6th place. Will West continued his good form through Sunday to walk away with top spot in the youth B class. In Will's tyre tracks his farther Stewart rode his yamaha consistently well over the whole weekend to victory in the twinshock class dropping only 44 points. Riding in his first ever two day, George Gosden rode brilliantly from start to finish and has now taken the lead in the southern centre youth C championship, runner up in the trial puts Chris Stay second in the championship with another local rider Jim West coming home in a brilliant third place. The club would like to thank Howard Jacobs who won the pre 65 class for helping to put the trial on, Christine for all the paper work, Roger Morgan and Dave Newnham for the use of there land.

Chris has been picked to ride for the southern centre in this years inter centre team trial in July on his JLI-RAW-BETA, when practising he is doing some pretty amazing stuff for a 9 yr. old, by holding the throttle open and dropping the clutch in third he got up a four foot step last night.

When he starts to relaxe a bit more at the British championships, and stop making silly mistakes on easy sections he will be hard to beat. He is getting stronger all the time and is starting fight with the bike and put it where he wants it, instead of the bike going where it wants to. the best is yet to come.

Alan Stay

Chris won round three of the Southern centre youth C championship yesterday at the Hobnail trophy trial, he has now taken the lead in the championship despite the fact that this is only his first year in the youth C class.

Chris has also been chosen to represent the southern centre in this years inter centre youth team trial in July.

On Saturday we all went to the centre awards evening, where Chris received his award for winning last years youth D championship from Jason Finn & Eddy Kid! This meant lots of smiles, lots of photos and much beer drinking afterwards.

Becky Cook

Becky won the first round of the British ladies trials championship in Staffordshire on her B.V.M. Gas Gas, beating Dona Fox by 4 points 6 to 10. Now we Know how good she is,we must sit down and consider doing the European and ladies world championship. She will only get better in time, as always the best is yet to come

Becky Cook

Becky won the third round of the ladies trials championship in Wales on Sunday to make it 3 out of 3, and take a nine point lead in the championship. Next stop France for round one of the ladies European championships on July 10. Last Saturday she collected her new Gas Gas from BVM, curtesy of John Shirt, so she now has one for practise and one for trials. The previous week we went to Yorkshire at the invitation of the ACU acadamy, for a days practise with 03 Scott winner Michel Phillipson, Becky made improvements to her riding during the day and a good time was had by all. We are now planning for the Ladies world rounds and trials de nations in Spain in September. Mean while Chris is improving all the time, and is currently involved in a season long battle with Joel Edwards from Wales for third place in the 80cc C class British Championship.

Now how about an exclusive interview with Becky the favourite to be British ladies trials champion 2004. You send me a list of say 20 questions, i will put them to her and send you the answers, exclusive or what from A. S.

Attack of the sausage and Salami

Chris had his best ride of the year at the inter centre team trial on saturday 17th and came home in eighth position overhaul in the C class, as the 125 and 80cc bikes were all put together this was a great result that has given us all a boost after his disappointing result in the last British championship round in Wales.

I haven't seen so many people watching a trial for years, and Chris loved it when he crowds cheered and clapped when he cleaned some of the harder sections, he was realy trying his heart out. Some of the B and C sections were the same, and Chris really got a kick when the B riders fived the sections and he went and cleaned them. I think the crowds got behind him because he was the youngest and smallest rider in the trial, when he rode some of the more popular sections it was like the press at a film premier, flashes going of every where.

So all those who thought he was the wrong rider for the team u can eat your words, and to those who got behind him a big thanks.

Anyway ... coming soon Becky Cook (the interview), and the European championship, watch this space.

Becky cooks interview from A.S, . .

Az promised. Becky Cook, the interview... I think you may have to set up her own page because she is famous, having won no less than 4 british championship trials on the trot.

Anyway last Sunday morning we was all out practising, Chris, Sam Ryan (who broke his arm in the Kent National) and Becky. It was bloody hot so when everyone stopped for a brake, we started asking the questions.

No1 At what age did you start riding trials? Becky. when i was six i started riding.

No2 What was your first bike? Becky. My first bike was Johns (her brother) old TY80, but before that we use to have an old PW50 that we use to ride around the yard.

Q3 Who is your trials idle? Becky. Douge Lampkin. Q Why is that? Becky. Because he only doe's just enough, he doesn't do anything that he doesn't have to, he doesn't show off or anything like that...HERE HERE! he is GOD

Q4 Which club do you belong to? Becky. The Isle of Wight motorcycle club, that's a bit obvious really. derrr!!

Q5 Who are you sponsored by? Becky. B.V.M. Dad and Spinlock holdings. Q What do they make then. Becky. Rope holdings for boats and Yachts, Q Do you have one of there brochures then? Becky. No Q Well if your sponsored by them you should be trying to sale there products. Becky Laughs, well they sent me another £100 the other day. Q How do they know how you are getting on? Becky. Well, the chap who owns the firm lives in our village and i send him all the press cuttings.

Q6 What is your ambition in trials? Becky. To be the best, to win the British championship, to be number one in the World, to be the best.

Q11 What was your best ever ride, was it in the Wight 2 day this year? Becky. No, because i had a five on the first day that i shouldn't have had. Q how about the British championships then, which was your best of those rides? Becky. I think it must have been the third one in Wales, because i was behind Donna after the first lap and i had to catch her up, and i still won after having 2 silly five's.

Q 12 How long do you think you will keep riding for? Becky. Until i get better, i meen i'll keep riding all the time that i'm getting better. Well, there you go interview over, back on your bikes and get on with the practising.

cheers Alan for that. and thankyou to Becky.

Becky makes the UK`s Womens`s Trials team

After months of speculation it's finally been announced that Island girl Becky Cook is to be included in the Ladies British motorcycle trials team. Becky will now be one of Three girls that will represent the UK at the international team trial in Spain next month. After winning the first four rounds of the british championship, selection was almost guaranteed, but a phone call from Auto. Cycle. Union. last Thursday confirmed her selection. Becky will now embark on an intensive training programme with help from ex British champion Steve Saunders. The last three rounds of the British championship will take place before Becky travels to Spain, so it would be the icing on the cake to represent her country as British champion, and complete a fantastic year for the quiet island girl who was virtually unknown only eight months ago.

Island teenager Becky Cook was crowned the British ladies trials champion of 2004 after winning the penultimate round on her B.V.M. Gas Gas at Hook woods near Guilford Surrey on Sunday. With 5 wins out of six starts and a third place, Becky cannot be caught by last years Champion Donna fox, who has come second in every round so far. With riders able to drop there worst result, if Cook can win the final round in Devon on Sept. 12, she could loose the third place result from Yorkshire, and completely white wash the opposition with a maximum points win. Before the first round of the British Championship in May Becky was completely unknown, but in the last five months she has become a member of the A.C.U. academy, now has two bikes, with one being used just for championship events, and to top it all will be representing Britain in the international ladies team trial in Spain later this month........ A. Stay

Island girl Becky Cook made an excellent start in her world trials championship debut, when she finished in the points on both occasions.

The first round at Tossa de Mar just north of Barcelona saw the British champion take thirteenth place after a close fought contest in temperatures around 30o. The second round took place at Cordoba 300miles south of Madrid which is one of the hottest regions of Spain, with day time temperatures exceeding 45o coping with the heat was as hard as the competion. Despite these abnormal conditions the fast learning teenager had another inspired ride that moved her into the top ten in the world championship.

The following day at the same venue was the ladies world team trial that had attracted teams from all corners of the globe, the british girls suffered a major setback when one of the strongest members of the team Maria Conway, broke her foot in a freak accident after colliding head on with another rider while travelling to the practice area. Despite this loss the team consisting of Becky Cook, Donna Fox and Katy Sunter did exceptionally well to finish in fifth place..... A. Stay

Chris Stay put all the tricks of the trade he learnt in Spain watching the recent Trials de nations, when he won his first British championship C class at Shorwell on the IOW last Saturday. Jake Evans luter having already won the championship, could'nt get to grips with the big steps and climbes and could only manage third place on the day, 10 makes behind George Gosden. Chris and George went into the fourth lap both on 41 but a stunning last lap of just 5 to georges 12 saw him take a well deserved victory and finsh third in the British 80cc C class in his first year.
